This section describes how to install IIS (Internet Information Services) 7.0 on Windows Vista (Ultimate, Business, or Enterprise) or Windows Server 2008 (Standard or Enterprise) and how to install IIS 7.5 on Windows 7.
IIS 7.0 is a built-in component of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.On Windows Vista, IIS 7.0 can be installed from ’Control Panel’ > ’Programs’ > ’Programs and Features’ > ’Turn Windows features on or off’. On Windows Server 2008, IIS 7.0 can be installed using the wizard.You cannot install IIS 7.0 on Windows Vista (Home Basic).CautionChanges to IIS settings may affect display functions. Migrating, on the other hand, is installing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or above and IIS 7.0 or above on a new server and then moving, or reinstalling, existing Web sites and applications on that server. This document outlines the steps to take in planning an upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7. Select the Web Server (IIS) role. In the Web Server (IIS) pane, scroll down to Role Services. Verify that the status for each of the Role Services above is listed as Installed. Verify requirements before installation.Before installing IIS 7.0 or 7.5, verify the following requirements:
*You have been logged in using ’Administrator’ accounts.
*You have stopped all Web servers other than IIS, if any.

*On Windows Server 2008From the Windows Start menu, select ’Server Manager’.Select ’Roles’ from the tree, and click ’Add Roles’.Click Next, select ’Web Service (IIS)’, and click Next > ’Add Required Features’ > Next.Select ’CGI’, and then click Next > Install.

Finish the installation.In Windows Vista or Windows 7, the installation completes automatically.Click Restart Now in the pop-up window to finish the installation.On Windows Server 2008, click Close.The installation of IIS7.0 or 7.5 is complete.

Verify the operation of IIS 7.0 or 7.5.Start a Web browser on the server on which IIS 7.0 or 7.5 is installed, and access the following URL: http://localhost/If the IIS 7.0 or ISS 7.5 page appears, the installation has completed successfully.

Create a ’Scripts’ folder and set permissions.Create a ’Scripts’ folder in the ’Inetpub’ directory using Windows Explorer.Examplec:InetpubScriptsOpen the properties of the created ’Scripts’ folder.Select the ’Security’ tab and click ’Edit’. Click ’Add’ > ’Advanced’ > ’Find Now’ (or ’Search’).Select ’Everyone’ from the group list, and click OK.Click OK again to return to the ’Security’ tab.Select ’Everyone’ in the group list, select ’Allow’ for ’Full control’, and then click OK > OK.

Create a virtual directory.Create the virtual directory ’Scripts’ below ’Default Web Site’ as follows:
*On Windows Vista or Windows 7From the Windows Start menu, select ’Control Panel’ > ’System and Maintenance’ (or ’System and Security’) > ’Administrative Tools’ > ’Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager’.
*On Windows Server 2008From the Windows Start menu, select ’Control Panel’ > ’Administrative Tools’ > ’Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager’.
In the tree on the left, select the Web server, right-click ’Default Web Site’ under ’Sites’, and select ’Add Virtual Directory’.Set the following options on the ’Add Virtual Directory’ screen:
*Alias: Scripts
*Physical path: c:InetpubScripts

Configure IIS 7.0 or 7.5.In the ’Home’ pane on the ’Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager’ screen, double-click ’ISAPI and CGI Restrictions’.Click ’Edit Feature Settings’, select ’ Allow unspecified CGI modules’, and click OK.Select the virtual directory ’Scripts’, and double-click ’Handler Mappings’.Select ’CGI-exe’, and click ’Edit Feature Permissions’. Select ’ Execute’, and then click OK.
